- Northwestern men's tennis picked up a pair of ranked victories over Big Ten foes this weekend, beating both No. 51 Indiana and No. 60 Purdue on the road. The wins improved the 'Cats to 10-8 this dual season, including a 3-1 conference mark after two weeks of Big Ten play.Friday's meeting with the Hoosiers (9-5, 0-3 Big Ten) began with the 'Cats clinching the doubles point. After Indiana claimed the first win at No. 1 doubles,andevened things up with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position. The win marked the fifth straight for the pair as a doubles duo, dating back to March 1. Finally,andprovided the difference in doubles play, winning 6-4 at No. 3 to clinch the point.Nordby and Miller each continued their impressive starts to conference season with a singles win each. Nordby put together a pair of decisive 6-1 sets at No. 2 singles to grow the 'Cats' lead to 2-0. Miller then put his team on the brink with a 6-4, 6-0 win of his own at the No. 5 spot. At No. 1 singles,scored match point in dramatic fashion, winning a 9-7 second-set tiebreak to lock up Northwestern's 4-1 victory over Indiana.In the second half of the weekend's action, the 'Cats battled Purdue (9-4, 1-3 B1G) in a match that came down to the final court. It was back-and-forth the entire way; after Purdue picked up the doubles point, Nordby struck back quickly with his second singles win of the weekend and his tenth straight individual victory in dual play. During his 14-match unbeaten streak, dating back to January 31 against Harvard, Nordby has dropped just four total sets.The match didn't stay tied at one for long, as Purdue locked up No. 1 singles to regain the lead. Miller added his second win of the weekend, however, quickly knotting the score again - this time at two all - with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot. Bengtsson gave Northwestern its first lead of the match with his win at No. 4 singles (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) ahead of Purdue's victory at No. 6, tying the teams again at three.That left the match up to, competing at No. 3 singles against Purdue's Henrik Villanger. After a strong 6-1 set-one win, Casey fell narrowly, 5-7, in the second set. With the win on the line, the sophomore closed out a 6-4 third-set victory and a 4-3 win for the 'Cats over the Boilermakers.The weekend earned Northwestern its first two ranked wins of the 2025 season.Next up for the Wildcats is a return to Evanston, where they'll host conference newcomers USC and UCLA next weekend. The 'Cats will face the Trojans at 6 p.m. CT on Friday evening before battling the Bruins at noon on Sunday.
