USF Athletics Posts More Record-Breaking Academic AchievementsJanuary 13, 2026Record department term GPA extends Bulls' record streak to 22 straight semesters with a 3.0 GPA;A record 434 student-athletes earn Honor Roll recognitionTAMPA, JAN. 13, 2026 – University of South Florida student-athletes earned yet another record-breaking academic performance in the 2025 fall semester, posting a record department-wide term grade point average to extend the department's record-setting streak of exceeding an overall GPA of 3.0 to 22 semesters.The Bulls also had a record number of student-athletes earn Honor Roll recognition and a record cumulative GPA, following on the heels of record Graduation Success Rate (GSR) numbers announced in the fall as well as record Academic Progress Rate (APR) achievements last spring.South Florida's nearly 500 student-athletes combined to register a 3.52 term in GPA in the fall, breaking the term mark set last fall (3.46) while also logging the department's highest-ever department cumulative GPA with a 3.38, breaking a mark set last spring (3.36).For the second-straight semester, all varsity programs earned a 3.00 or better term GPA in the fall 2025 semester and 18 of 19 maintained a cumulative GPA over 3.0."Our student-athletes continue to show their commitment and dedication and make us tremendously proud with their achievements in the classroom," said USF CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins. "Breaking semester and cumulative GPA records while also blowing past records for student-athletes earning Honor Roll recognition is a tribute to not only our student-athletes but the championship culture, investment and support of our coaches and superb academic staff."Over 90 percent of Bulls student-athletes logged a 3.00 or above fall term GPA and over 83 percent own a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. The Bulls had 434 student-athletes that earn recognition on the USF Athletic Department Honor Roll, 73 more than did so in the 2025 spring term.South Florida had 73 student-athletes earn a 4.0 GPA in the fall term and 24 maintain a cumulative GPA of 4.0. Meanwhile, 242 student-athletes maintained a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA and 399 maintained over a 3.0.Four teams also recorded their best-ever semester GPAs: baseball (3.47), men's basketball (3.49), football (3.41) and softball (3.68). Meanwhile football, beach volleyball, women's soccer and softball earned record cumulative GPAs.For the football program it marked the second straight semester setting both program semester and cumulative GPA marks, and the Bulls also broke their record for Honor Roll achievement, seeing 104 student-athletes earn recognition. Meanwhile, women's lacrosse earned 38 Honor Roll members and had 13 student-athletes achieve a 4.0. Baseball earned 39 Honor Roll members, women's track 37, men's track 29, and softball and soccer 27 each among the Bulls' program leaders.Men's teams achieved a 3.44 semester GPA and 3.24 cumulative, while women's teams excelled with a 3.61 semester mark and 3.55 cumulative. Men's tennis recorded the highest men's GPA at 3.68, while beach volleyball, debuting it championship season this spring, led all women's programs with a 3.75 GPA during the fall semester. Both teams also led all programs following the 2025 spring semester.Twenty-six student-athletes earned degrees in the fall, including 18 bachelor's degrees and eight master's degrees.Released in November, the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report further highlighted the academic achievements of USF's student-athletes. The department achieved a program-record GSR of 91 percent, marking the fifth straight year that USF's average overall GSR has been 85 percent or above and breaking the previous record of 88 percent set in fall of 2024. The GSR report is a four-class average that includes student-athletes who entered as freshmen in 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 and graduated within a six-year period. It also accounts for mid-year enrollees, transferring student-athletes coming into USF, and those leaving the university in good standing.Last spring, USF Athletics also set a record with six programs earning perfect multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores — men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's golf, and women's tennis. The APR is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention, and graduation for student-athletes.About USF AthleticsUSF Athletics sponsors 21 varsity teams, with 20 competing at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference, including the recent additions of women's lacrosse and women's beach volleyball. The Bulls' athletic program, founded in 1965, celebrates its 60thseason in 2025-26.Nearly 500 student-athletes train and compete in the Tampa General Hospital Athletics District on the east end of USF's Tampa campus. The Bulls have won 154 conference titles across 16 sports, with 82 men's championships and 72 women's championships. Men's tennis and men's soccer lead with 20 titles each, while women's programs have been headlined by women's tennis (14) and volleyball (13). Since joining the American Athletic Conference in 2013, USF has secured 36 conference team titles.Academically, USF student-athletes have achieved a program record of 21 consecutive semesters with a combined GPA of 3.0 or above as of spring 2025.
