Marcus Rashford could be set for an emotional reunion with former Manchester United team-mate Jesse Lingard later this month if he completes a move to Barcelona.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Saturday that Rashford was closing in on a move to the La Liga side, who are set to cover his wages in full for the year he spends at the club.

There is also an option to make the move permanent come the end of the campaign.

The England international is one of five unwanted players at Old Trafford - along with Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrrell Malacia - and on this weekend took a step closer to joining Barcelona on a season-long loan.

Should the Englishman complete his long-awaited move to the Camp Nou, he could find himself reunited with his former team-mate and close friend Lingard.

Lingard, who left United in 2022, plays for K-League side FC Seoul. The South Korean club will face Barcelona in a pre-season friendly on July 31.

Both Lingard and Rashford made over 200 appearances for United and won the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League after progressing through the academy.

Rashford last played for United on December 12 and fell out of favour with head coach Ruben Amorim before securing a loan to Aston Villa for the latter half of the 2024/25 season.

"What I say is I couldn't put Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it," Amorim said following the move.

"And sometimes you have one player who is really good with one coach and the same player with another coach is different.

"I just wish the best to Rashford and Unai Emery, and they can connect because he's a very good player."
