Manchester United will be eyeing a return to winning ways when they face Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

United slipped to a fourth successive defeat in all competitions on Monday evening, losing 2-0 at home to Newcastle United. That marked a third league defeat on the spin without finding the back of the net.

With that said, a trip to Anfield - a venue United last scored at in 2018 - is probably the last thing head coach Ruben Amorim could have wished for. United are also winless away from home against Liverpool since 2016.

Ahead of the short trip along the M62, Amorim is having to contend with a handful of injury and illness-related issues. With that said, MEN Sport has had a close look at who is poised to miss the clash with Arne Slot's team.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford is ill and looks set to miss the trip to Anfield on Sunday.

What Amorim said: "It's the same situation. At the moment, he's ill, he’s not training so we'll see in the future but he's like a normal player, then I make a selection so it's the same. I think he's going to be out this week, he's not training. We'll see but I think this week he's out."

Expected return date: Unknown.

Mason Mount

Injury: Thigh injury

What Amorim said: "[He will be out for] Several weeks. I don't know the exact date but it's going to be for long and that's it. That's part of football, you continue."

Expected return date: January.

Luke Shaw

Injury: Hamstring.

Shaw suffered a hamstring injury just weeks after returning from a previous injury. He confirmed he had picked up a knock in a social media post, adding that he was "absolutely devastated" to have suffered another setback.

What Amorim said: "Vic [Victor Lindelof] is almost there and Luke also. But they are out [vs Liverpool]."

Expected return date: Unknown.

Victor Lindelof

Injury: Unknown.

After making a rare start against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, Lindelof picked up an injury and was replaced in the first half.

What Amorim has said: "Vic is almost there and Luke also. But they are out."

Expected return date: Unknown.

Jonny Evans

Injury: Unknown.

Northern Irishman Evans was missing from the matchday squad against Newcastle after previously being on the bench against both Bournemouth and Wolves. He will be missing once again at Anfield.

What Amorim said: "Jonny is out. I think the rest – Vic is almost there and Luke also. But they are out. The others, I think, are fit."
