Former Royal Marine Paul Doyle charged after Liverpool parade crash

An IT professional and former Royal Marine has been charged after a car was driven into a crowd of people celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title win.

Father of three Paul Doyle, 53, previously described by police as a white British man from West Derby in Liverpool, was arrested at the scene on Monday.

Merseyside Police say Doyle has been charged with seven offences, including dangerous driving, grievous bodily harm with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded into custody and will appear at Liverpool magistrates’ court on Friday morning.

A total of 79 people, including four children, were injured in the incident on Water Street, near the parade route, just after 6pm, 50 of whom required hospital treatment.

Police confirmed there are still seven people in hospital. The youngest casualty is aged nine, and the oldest is 78.
