Paul Scholes' three-word response to daughter wearing Arsenal shirt during Man Utd game

Paul Scholes was left baffled after seeing his daughter Alicia wearing an Arsenal shirt as Manchester United hosted the Gunners on the opening day of the Premier League season

Scholes had a brutal response to his daughter's shirt choice

Manchester United icon Paul Scholes demanded his daughter take off an Arsenal shirt just before the Red Devils’ Premier League opener against the Gunners. Ruben Amorim’s men welcomed the North London side to Old Trafford on Sunday to get their new campaigns underway.

United eventually slipped to defeat, with Riccardo Calafiori’s first-half header securing victory for the Gunners. That result will not have helped Scholes’ mood following a difficult first few minutes.

His daughter Alicia, 24, filmed her Dad’s reaction as she walked into the lounge wearing an Arsenal shirt. And Scholes, 50, had a blunt response to her choice of attire, quickly saying: “Take it off.”

She quickly turned down that request. Alicia is one of three children that Scholes shares with wife Claire Froggatt. They also share 25-year-old son Arron, as well as Aiden, 20.

Alicia is currently embarking on a career in netball. She represents London Pulse in the Netball Super League and also plays for England on the international stage.

Scholes will certainly hope that Alicia changes her allegiances some time soon. He has already revealed that he is optimistic of a better season at Old Trafford this season following their dire form last term.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s season opener, he said: "It's a tricky one after being so bad last year. Now seasons can change. We saw last year with Nottingham Forest, it doesn't have to take five to 10 years to get back where you want to be.

“Although it is looking better, I still think there are issues with the team. The midfield, I know we don't want to go through it again. But, top six. I think top six would be more than acceptable.

"As much as you don't want to say that, I always think Manchester United should aim for the very best and aim for the highest. I am just not sure. I think there are too many good teams now.

"I think Liverpool, Chelsea and City are all on the up. Arsenal [as well], I did not even mention Aston Villa, Newcastle. I think there is a lot of competition now to get top six."

Man United are back in action at the weekend as they travel to Fulham on Sunday afternoon. And Scholes will be hopeful that Alicia does not choose to sport a Cottagers shirt this time around.
