He endured a near seven-year absence from the national team, but was bought back into the fold when Thomas Tuchel needed some injury cover.He hadn't played for the Three Lions since a friendly against the United States in November 2018. The midfielder would later rupture his Achilles in 2019 playing for Chelsea in a friendly before the Europa League final, and subsequently fell out of the England picture.Loftus-Cheek confessed in September: "When I ruptured my Achilles, I was on such a high [before it happened], so after that I had a hard time mentally. But I was still young, I still had time to come back, so I wasn't too low."He added: "You still want to push in club football with the hope of maybe getting a sniff.
