Ruben Amorim reveals Sir Alex Ferguson phonecalls in bid to solve Man Utd crisis

Ruben Amorim has revealed he has spoken with Sir Alex Ferguson "several times" as he attempts to turn things around at Manchester United.

Amorim has picked up just six wins from his first 15 games in charge of the Red Devils and he claimed after their latest defeat to Brighton on Sunday that his side were perhaps the worst in the club's history.

Legendary United boss Ferguson, who won more than 30 trophies during his time at Old Trafford, attended the Brighton game as the club paid tribute to their former striker Denis Law after he passed away at the age of 84 and he had a lengthy chat with Amorim ahead of the game.

And Amorim has since revealed that he and Ferguson have also spoke over the phone about United's struggles, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: "I speak with Sir Alex several times. I try to call him to keep being positive.

"It's really good because I feel the history of the club but it's really hard, as they did such a good job, to be the guy leading the team at this moment. It's really hard but we have to believe."

United are due to host Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday and, speaking ahead of that game, Amorim admitted he had made a mistake in describing his team as perhaps the worst in club history.

"I didn't think and I am a young guy, sometimes I make a mistake," he said at his pre-match press conference. "That's why I do not talk after the game. This game, I needed to talk and maybe it was a mistake and I get more nervous and go to the press conference really nervous and you say things you shouldn't say.

"That is it and sometimes you are a young guy who makes mistakes, you improve. I do not promise you I won't do it again... I do not know! I will try to improve.

"The most important thing is to think we can improve right away in the next match and then it is like that! Football can change like that and we can have a lot of ideas and thinking that things could get worse for that reason and another reason but imagine tomorrow we do not suffer a goal in the beginning and we score, we play well and then we go to Fulham and we can win it.

"That will change and even the environment here, everything. I don't know and what I can sense from the first day is that when I arrive and I see it that changing things, we are going to suffer and it was really clear. But in this moment I don't want to say it is going to take a lot of time, it is getting really hard."

The official programme cover for Manchester United v Rangers has been revealed, and it is paying tribute to 'The King', Denis Law. As well as the cover, there will be special features inside dedicated to the Manchester United and Scotland legend. Copies will be available at Old Trafford on matchday or online .
