An Expert Committee of the Karnataka Government held a meeting on Friday (March 13) with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to chart the path ahead for the return of IPL at the venue in the city. KSCA noted that after fruitful discussions, further updates on the matter are expected on Monday (March 16) evening."During the meeting, KSCA made a detailed presentation on the infrastructural upgradations/arrangements and safety measures undertaken at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in line with the recommendations of the Expert Committee that are to be implemented under Phase-I of the compliance framework," a KSCA statement read.Since the tragic events of June 4 last year when a trophy celebration turned into a stampede, killing 11 people, there have been no matches played at the venue due to security reasons. In January this year, KSCA received a conditional nod from the state government to host IPL and international matches at the venue again, subject to compliance with specific terms and conditions prescribed by the government and the concerned authorities. A formal clearance followed in February, giving RCB the chance to return to the venue they have called home since the start of the IPL in 2008 whenever the tournament has been held in India. The KSCA statement also said that the stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the matches will be conducted in a safe, well-regulated, and seamless manner. Should they go ahead, RCB will play five of their seven home matches at the Chinnaswamy, with the other two in Raipur.
