Diogo Dalot makes 'really good' claim about Ruben Amorim at Man Utd, gives him the 'best compliment'

Diogo Dalot has established himself to be one of Ruben Amorim’s key men at Manchester United over the past few months.

In the early months of Ruben Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford, the performances of Diogo Dalot were often atrocious as the Portuguese international struggled to settle as a left wing-back.

This form had supporters growing weary of Dalot, with the days thought to be numbered for Manchester United’s number 20 as he looked like the clear and obvious weak point in the team. This then prompted United to swoop for Patrick Dorgu.

After this, Dalot was moved to his favoured right side, although his worst moment came just last month against Real Sociedad. Dalot failed to make an obvious pass to Rasmus Hojlund, which likely cost Amorim’s side a goal.

But Dalot impressed against Forest and is looking like he has found the form that made him so popular in the first place at Old Trafford.

Now, he has shared a verdict on Amorim.

Diogo Dalot raves about the honesty Ruben Amorim brought to Manchester United

Speaking with talkSPORT on Thursday, Dalot has revealed that Amorim’s communication is among the very best qualities he has as a head coach.

“I think it’s one of the best compliments that you can give about him, is that he’s really honest.

“I think you can see that when he speaks, he’s not trying to give the right answer. He just speaks from the heart.

“And it’s difficult for a manager to always be completely honest. But I think it’s something that since I’ve known him as a manager, he’s always been like that.

Dalot added, “And then, people will judge him by his words, by his actions. But that’s part of football.

“We, football players, will be judged by what we do on the pitch. So as a manager, you’re always exposed to that. But I think he’s a really good communicator, so he will be fine.”

United have seen Amorim’s honesty in practice when he slammed the club, brandishing his team as the worst in club history.

Dalot reveals Amorim was initially speaking Portuguese to the United squad

Dalot was not only praising the 40-year-old but also explained how he had initially been talking to and coaching the team in Portuguese.

It was funny because sometimes he was so used to it in the beginning, to speak Portuguese that he would start speaking Portuguese to all the players during training before he had completely adapted to English.

“And the players were like: ‘Boss, come on, you’re speaking [Portuguese]. ’ And he was like: ‘Oh, sorry!’

“And he started already with English, but it’s a normal adaptation, I’ve been there. When I arrived, it was exactly the same.”

“I think it [speaking English] was something that he obviously tried to make sure as soon as he arrived, to adapt really quick for everybody not to feel [left out].

“Obviously sometimes it’s easier for him to communicate in Portuguese in the first few months. But now I think it became completely normal for him to speak English.”
