New Delhi: Despite India’s victory in the 2025 Asia Cup, the trophy has not yet been handed over to the Indian team. The BCCI formally raised this issue at the ICC Board meeting. The ICC has decided to form a committee to resolve this deadlock, which will mediate between both the Indian and Pakistani sides.

Trophy Still with ACC

India won the 2025 Asia Cup by defeating Pakistan by seven wickets in Dubai on September 28, but the winning trophy has not yet been given to the team. According to reports, the trophy is still under the control of ACC President Mohsin Naqvi and is being kept safely at the ACC headquarters.

ICC Forms Committee

According to sources, the ICC has formed a committee to resolve this dispute. BCCI Secretary Debajit Saikia emphasized at the meeting that the trophy rightfully belongs to the Indian team and should be handed over without any further delay. The ICC also stressed the need to resolve this issue quickly.

Committee Chair: Oman Cricket Board

The ICC has appointed Pankaj Khimji, Chairman of the Oman Cricket Board, to chair the committee. Khimji has good relations with both the BCCI and the PCB and has previously mediated between the two boards. The committee is now expected to bring about a swift resolution to the trophy dispute.

Background of the Trophy Dispute

The dispute began when the Indian team refused to accept the trophy directly from Naqvi after the final match. Naqvi is also the Home Minister of Pakistan and was to present the trophy as the ACC President. Following this, the trophy was removed from the presentation area, escalating tensions between the boards.

BCCI’s Stance

The BCCI had written to Naqvi approximately ten days before the ICC meeting requesting the handover of the trophy but received no response. Naqvi later proposed presenting the trophy at a separate ceremony on November 10, which the BCCI rejected and subsequently raised the matter with the ICC.

ICC’s Action and Positive Signs

According to sources, the ICC meeting was held in an amicable atmosphere, where emphasis was placed on maintaining professional and positive relations between the two countries. The BCCI clarified that the team will not accept the trophy directly from Naqvi.

Expected to Be Handed Over Soon

Following this initiative by the ICC, it is expected that the Asia Cup 2025 trophy will be handed over to the Indian team soon, resolving the dispute.
