Man Utd Hold Talks Over Signing Anthony Gordon From Newcastle

While all the attention appears to be on which midfielders Manchester United will sign in this summer's transfer window, it isn't the only position the Red Devils could strengthen.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, United want to bring in two top-quality, experienced options in central midfield in 2026, especially with Casemiro leaving the club at the end of the season.

But with Man United currently occupying a Champions League spot in the Premier League, there could be scope for a lot more business if they can seal that top-four spot and a return to the European elite next term.

As per GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, United could also target a versatile left-back, left-winger and striker in the summer window.

Man United Hold Talks Over Anthony Gordon Move

According to Jacobs, speaking to the United Stand on Thursday, Red Devils chiefs have held internal talks over a potential summer move for Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon.

The Magpies are said to be open to a major sale of the former Everton star should they miss out on Champions League qualification, which they are currently on course to do as they lie in 10th position, nine points adrift of United in the final top-four spot.

One of the benefits of moving for Gordon is his versatility, and his signing could kill two birds with one stone for United's summer transfer strategy as he is able to play both as a left-winger and through the middle, as he has shown in recent weeks.

Gordon Can be a Sesko Upgrade

While Sesko is still adapting to a new country and Premier League football, it cannot be denied that caretaker manager Michael Carrick has preferred to use Bryan Mbeumo in the striker position over the Slovenia international since he took charge.

It is a switch that has paid dividends and fired United into top-four contention, and it will be interesting to see if the club's next permanent manager also sees Sesko as more of a back-up option.

Like Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, Gordon has 170 Premier League games under his belt and he has proven he can play as a centre-forward with goals against Barcelona and Liverpool this term from that position, along with the four goals he netted against Qarabag on Wednesday night.

Described as the 'fastest man in football' by one website after data from CIES revealed he's the quickest player still competing in this season's Champions League, Gordon would bring more pace to a United attack that doesn't boast loads of it, perhaps aside from Mbeumo who has also shone in the striker role.

With his speed and versatility, Gordon has the quality to transform United's attack again if they do firm up their interest at the end of the campaign.
