The amount, if Ravi Shastri is to be believed, is jaw-dropping. And it certainly left former England cricketers like Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd stunned.

While appearing in the podcast Stick To Cricket that also featured Alastair Cook and Phil Tufnell, Shastri was quizzed by former England captain Vaughan about the amount top India cricketers like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar typically earn.

“They earn a lot," Shastri said. “They earn a lot through endorsements, for sure" before adding “Upwards of Rs 100 crores. Which I would say is 10 million pounds."

His revelation did shock Lloyd who yelled “Wow!" in disbelief.

“I would say… you just calculate 100 rupees is a pound. So you work backwards and you calculate upwards of that because someone like MS Dhoni or a Virat Kohli or a Sachin Tendulkar at his pomp, they would do over 15, 20 ads," Shastri continued.

“It’s per day. There’s no time. They could easily do more because of the amount of cricket being played. So, you know, they’ll do an ad for a year and give a day – just one day to shoot. That’s all you’ll get. And then you play it out as many times as you want," he added.

How Much BCCI Pays Its Cricketers?

Players representing India are given central contracts annually by the BCCI and are divided into four grades depending on their performances. The top cricketers are placed in Grade A+ command annual salary of Rs 7 crore each while Grade A players are offered Rs 5 crore each.

Those in Grade B earn Rs 3 crore each while Grade C cricketers get Rs 1 crore.

As per the latest contracts Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have Grade A+ contracts while six players including KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant are in Grade A.
