Rangers Sign Mikey Moore On Loan From Tottenham Hotspur

RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to announce the signing of Mikey Moore from Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan deal subject to international clearance.

The highly-rated teenager becomes the latest addition to Russell Martin’s squad.

Moore, who turns 18 later this month, has progressed through the ranks at Spurs since the age of seven, debuting for the club’s Under-21s side at just 15-years-old.

He made his senior debut in north London against Manchester City a little over 12 months ago, becoming the youngest Spurs player to feature in the Premier League at the age of 16 years and 277 days.

His European bow soon followed in a 3-0 triumph over Qarabag in the UEFA Europa League in September, with the teenager appearing a handful of times in his side’s eventual success in the competition.

At 17 years and 77 days, Moore also became the youngest player to start for Spurs in a league match since 1993 when he was given the nod from the off against Crystal Palace in October.

Another record was smashed by the teenager in a European victory over Elfsborg in January; his first senior goal with the last kick of the game earning him the status of being England's youngest-ever goalscorer in a major European competition and breaking Spurs legend Jimmy Greaves' 68-year record in the process.

At international level, Moore starred for England at the Under-17 European Championships last year, later making his Under-19s debut and featuring on several occasions since.

Speaking after signing for the club on a season-long loan, Moore commented: “I’m excited to get going. As soon as I heard Rangers were interested and wanted me to come, it was a massive opportunity for me.

“I’m excited to be here and hopefully I can show the fans and everyone what I can do.

“I think with the new boss and the way that we play, it’s a great place to be at the minute. It was a pretty easy decision for me to come here.”

Head Coach, Russell Martin, continued: “We are thrilled to bring Mikey on loan for this season.

“He is a player with huge potential, and it is testament to his quality that he has been entrusted by Spurs in both the Premier League and UEFA Europa League with such regularity over the last 18 months.”

Sporting Director, Kevin Thelwell, added: “It is no secret that there was significant interest from elsewhere in Mikey and we are delighted that he has chosen Rangers at this stage in his career.

“He rose to prominence with Spurs last year and it is a reflection of his temperament and quality as a player that he made an immediate impact at a senior level which demands the best.

“We are convinced that Mikey is a player who will enhance our attacking unit. He is stepping into an ambitious, demanding environment that will test him, support him, and provide the platform to deliver and fulfil his potential, to the benefit of both himself and the club.”
