The main draw for the Australian Open 2026, the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, will begin at Melbourne Park on Sunday.

The 114th edition of the Australian Open tennis tournament will be available for live streaming and telecast in India.

Defending champion and world No. 2 Jannik Sinner of Italy will be eyeing a third consecutive Australian Open title.

Jannik Sinner had beaten Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who is seeded third in the 2026 Australian Open, in last year’s final.

Sinner will aim to become just the second player in the Open era to win three successive Australian Open titles after Olympic champion and record 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic.

Fourth seed Novak Djokovic, the most successful player in Australian Open history with 10 titles, has achieved two three-peat triumphs at the tournament - from 2011 to 2013 and 2019 to 2021.

However, both Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam winner, and Djokovic will go up against world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, a six-time Grand Slam winner who is yet to win the Australian Open.

A two-time champion at Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open, the Spaniard is out to complete a Career Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Seeded ninth, USA’s Madison Keys heads into the Australian Open as the reigning women’s singles champion.

Madison Keys had beaten world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in last year’s final. Top seed Aryna Sabalenka, meanwhile, will be eyeing her third Australian Open crown, having won the title twice in 2023 and 2024.

Six-time Grand Slam winner and second-seeded Iga Świątek of Poland, as well as third-seeded Coco Gauff, will also be competing for the women’s singles title.

Indian tennis players at Australian 2026

Niki Poonacha is the sole Indian tennis player who has made it to the Australian Open main draw. Along with his partner Pruchya Isaro of Thailand, Niki qualified for the men’s doubles draw through the Asia-Pacific wild card play-off tournament in November.
