STALWART PIE ‘REFUSING’ TO SIGN NEW DEAL

Brody Mihocek is “refusing” to sign a one-year extension at Collingwood, according to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

Ralph revealed that a series of clubs have inquired as to whether Mihocek would depart the Pies if he could secure a longer-term deal at another club.

Mihocek is reportedly part of a contingent of senior Collingwood players who have been offered one-year extensions, but Ralph said the Jack Silvagni offer, plus Harry Perryman’s six-year, $900,000 a season contract from last year, “has to be a sticking point” for that group.

The veteran journalist said Melbourne and Sydney “would be in the hunt” for Mihocek if he wants to leave and up to half a dozen clubs have made inquiries.

The veteran Pie has booted 32 goals from 16 games this season and figures as a crucial cog heading into another finals series for Craig McRae’s side.

SECOND SUITOR CIRCLES SILVAGNI

The Western Bulldogs will meet with Carlton swingman Jack Silvagni “in the next fortnight”, according to Seven’s Mitch Cleary.

Silvagni is weighing up his football future and has reported interest from Collingwood and now the Western Bulldogs.

Earlier this week, Collingwood coach Craig McRae revealed he’d met with Silvagni himself as the Pies try to lure one of Carlton’s favourite sons to the AIA Centre.

But the Dogs have now thrown their hat in the ring as they look to bolster a leaky defence.

James O’Donnell and Jedd Busslinger have bright futures, while Rory Lobb’s move to defence in recent years has proved a masterstroke by Dogs coach Luke Beveridge.

Veteran Liam Jones has fallen out of favour, while Ryan Gardner and Buku Khamis have also been used in key position posts at different stages in 2025.

Recent reports have suggested that Silvagni’s offer from the Pies is four years at around $650,000 a season, but the Blues also have a similar financial offer on the table for him to remain at IKON Park.

GIANTS DUO TO DEPART

St Kilda have finally landed a big fish.

That’s according to Jon Ralph, who told Fox Footy’s Thursday Night Footy broadcast: “Put the glasses down, Leek Aleer is done to St Kilda”.

Ralph revealed Aleer was offered a two-year deal at $400,000 a season, but knows he’ll get four years at the Saints worth $750,000 a year.

“Even though he loves GWS, he’s happy to move for opportunity,” Ralph said.

Aleer would join veteran back Callum Wilkie and exciting youngster Alix Tauru in defence under Ross Lyon as the Saints look to put together a list that will see them compete for finals once more.

St Kilda champion Leigh Montagna was stoked with the potential acquisition: “St Kilda clearly need a key defender… I certainly think it’s a good get for St Kilda”.

Meantime, Ralph reported that untried tall Wade Derksen is likely to finally land at Melbourne, 12 months after that move was denied by the Giants.

The Giants picked up Derksen in the 2022 mid-season draft but he has been unable to break into the senior team, despite very strong form at VFL level.
