Heading into the India vs England semi-final match, there are three things to watch for. India & England have met in the semi-finals before (with interesting results). India has one significant area of concern, and one of their players could face a reprimand prior to the pivotal match.

India vs England: Victor Could Win the 2026 T20 World Cup

Those who have been following cricket for a while already know some of the history between India and England. However, it’s important to remember one detail that could make an interesting storyline at this stage of the competition.

This is the third consecutive World Cup in which India and England will meet in the semi-final.

In 2022, England defeated India in the semi-final before moving on to face Pakistan in the final. They would go on to win the World Cup that year. Similarly, the two teams met again in 2024. This time, India defeated England before defeating South Africa in the final to be crowned champion.

Will history repeat itself? If so, which history will be repeated, England’s or India’s?

India’s Biggest Concern Heading Into T20 Cricket World Cup Semi-Final

India has displayed an ability to defeat the best teams during this World Cup tournament, as seen by their most recent victory against West Indies. However, their biggest issue has come to the forefront.

Of the four teams remaining in the T20 World Cup, they have the worst catching efficiency when fielding. They currently hold a 71.7 percent catching efficiency, with 13 dropped catches.

And they are facing an England squad that has a fielder with the second-most catches in the tournament (Tom Banton).

However, as bad as this World Cup has been for India’s fielding, it hasn’t been good for a while. Cricbuzz reports that since the 2025 Asia Cup, India has a catching efficiency of 75.8 percent, compared to England’s 84.5 percent.

During that period, India had 42 drops to England’s 17. Will fielding be the difference in the India vs England semi-final? Which roster gives India the best fielders who have the fewest drops?

Sanju Samson Reprimanded, Rumor or Report?

There is also a new report that suggests Sanju Samson, the hero of India’s final Super 8 match, may face a reprimand.

The X account, Cricketopia, shares some insight into the matter.

“As per reports, Sanju Samson is under scrutiny from the ICC following his post-match celebrations after India’s win over the West Indies,” the X post reads. “His helmet-throwing gesture is reportedly being reviewed for potential breaches of the ICC’s Code of Conduct. This is a Level 1 breach, and the Match Referee can impose an official reprimand. This could mean a fine of up to 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, or one or two demerit points.”

“Although tossing a helmet for celebration after a win doesn’t automatically trigger punishment, it could be classified as a breach at the discretion of the match referee.”

If this behavior does trigger a reprimand, how will the players respond? Will celebrations be more contained? Or does the ICC decide that this action is not worthy of further action? We wait and see.
