‘Exciting prospect’: Bears lock up Tigers gun as lucky number 13 as club flags ‘further’ signings

The Perth Bears have a starting side after Tigers winger Luke Laulilii was confirmed as their 13th signing on a two-year deal ahead of their inaugural season in 2027.

The 19-year-old flyer has scored four tries in nine games for the Wests Tigers since his debut in 2024, including two in four games last season.

The club said in a statement on Friday that Laulilii’s signing capped off a “monumental week”, which included confirmation of Melbourne’s Tyran Wishart and Nick Meaney’s impending arrival along with James McDonell and Chris Vea’ila.

Laulilli captained the Tigers’ Harold Matthews Cup team in 2023 and at just 19, he is the Bears’ youngest recruit to date.

“The Perth Bears provide an opportunity for me to continue to develop my game and take it to the next level,” Laulilii said.

“I’m excited about the prospect of playing in front of the fans in Perth.

“I know how much they love their sport and it’s a privilege to be a part of a rugby league team that represents the people of Western Australia.”

Laulilli is the sixth Bears signing to be announced in 2026 and will provide head coach Mal Meninga versatility and options in his backline.

“Luke is a very talented and athletic outside back who will provide us plenty of options,” Meninga said.

“He is a fantastic finisher and strong defender. I’m sure he will continue to develop this season and look forward to welcoming him and his family over to WA.”

Bears General Manager of Football David Sharpe was excited by Laulilii’s potential.

“Luke is an exciting prospect, and we are very happy to have secured him for the next two seasons,” Sharpe said.

“We remain very active in the recruitment space and I’m confident we will have some further announcements in the coming weeks.”
