Manchester United starlet Chido Obi has fired a message to Godwill Kukonki after the United Academy talent posted a cryptic message to social media.

The 17-year-old has been on the periphery of the first-team after the arrival of Ruben Amorim as head coach. In three matches this season, he has been named on the substitutes bench in the Premier League.

He was in action for the Under-21s as they cruised past West Brom on Friday night at Leigh Sports Villa as Jack Fletcher scored twice in a 5-1 win.

Taking to Instagram after the win, the England Under-17 international wrote: "Wait on me." Obi was among the players to offer support to the centre-back as the attacker replied: "Wait, wait."

Kukonki has made an impression on Amorim during the Portuguese's early tenure at the Theatre of Dreams. He earned praise from the former Sporting CP head coach, after being promoted to the first-team as a 16-year-old.

"He's 16," the Portuguese said in December. "But he has impressed me a lot, so it's also a sign to the youth players that they can be here.

"If something happened with the first-team squad, they have to step up and I think he's ready, he's very adult to handle the demands of the Premier League."

The Manchester Evening News reported in October that Kukonki was seen in-house as a player who possesses the technical and physical qualities needed for senior football - and he trained with the first-team at Carrington for the first time under Amorim's watchful eye just a few weeks later.

There have been comparisons made between Kukonki and Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol, as Kukonki is a naturally left-footed defender - which makes him a unique option.
