Pouatcha Clinches the Win on Court Five

The No. 48 California Golden Bears (9-7) defeated Virginia Tech (4-8) 4-0 at Hellman Tennis Complex on Sunday.

To begin the match, Cal jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles wins on courts one and three. On court three, California's Bernardo Munk Mesa and Paris Pouatcha won 6-2, while teammates Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski and Timofey Stepanov clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory of their own. Both duos remain undefeated on the season. The Bears are also 13-3 in doubles this season.

In singles play against the Hokies, Bernardo Munk Mesa claimed the Bears' second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory on court four. Munk Mesa's win marked his fifth consecutive singles win. Next, on court three, Tiago Silva inched Cal closer to a match victory after he won in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-4. Finally, on court five, Paris Pouatcha won 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the victory for the Bears. With the win, Pouatcha claimed his tenth straight win and sixth straight singles win.

Next: The Bears will face Boston College and Saint Mary's College at home on Friday. Then, the Bears will face No. 47 SMU at home on Sunday.
