Varun bowled 4 overs for India in their Super 8s match against South Africa on Sunday and picked up David Miller's wicket. Miller was caught by Tilak Varma.

World No. 1 T20I bowler Varun Chakaravarthy entered his name in the history books on Sunday (February 22) by becoming the first Indian bowler to take at least one wicket in 18 T20I matches in a row. Varun bowled four overs for India in their first Super 8s match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday against South Africa at Narendra Modi Stadium and picked up 1 wicket for 47 runs. His solo wicket came in the form of David Miller on the fourth ball of his fourth over.

In an attempt to play a big shot off Varun’s bowling, Miller was caught near the boundary ropes by Tilak Varma.

Before making his way back to the pavilion, Miller faced 35 balls and, with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes, scored 63 runs.

The wicket of Miller at the world’s biggest cricket stadium helped Varun break Arshdeep Singh’s record of taking wickets in most T20I matches in a row for India.

Arshdeep dismissed at least one opposition batter in 17 T20I matches in a row for India from June 29, 2024, to December 9, 2025.

On the other hand, Varun’s last failed to take a wicket in a T20I match for India on September 21, 2025. In his last 18 T20I matches for the Men in Blue, Varun has picked up 34 wickets.
