Ange Postecoglou could make his managerial return sooner than expected, with the former Tottenham and Socceroos boss linked with two coaching vacancies in Europe.

Despite leading Spurs towards Europa League glory last season, the 60-year-old was stood down by Tottenham earlier this year after the club finished 17th in the Premier League, replaced by Denmark’s Thomas Frank.

And on Wednesday, football reporter and renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed the Australian had emerged as an option for Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen and Turkey’s Fenerbahce.

Earlier this week, Bayer Leverkusen sacked former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag just two games into the new Bundesliga season, with sporting director Simon Rolfes claiming the team lacked “clarity and direction” under his guidance.

The 2023/24 Bundesliga victors finished second last season to qualify for this year’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce are looking for a manager following the exit of Jose Mourinho, who was stood down after the Super Lig club failed to qualify for the Champions League. Real Madrid legend Raul and former Bundesliga managers Edin Terzic and Marco Rose have also been linked with the Leverkusen vacancy.

Postecoglou could receive offers from the two clubs before the end of the international break.

Postecoglou has previously been linked with Nottingham Forest after a rift between current manager Nuno Espírito Santo and owner Evangelos Marinakis prompted reports the Portuguese boss could be on his way out. He was also linked with Saudi Arabi’s Al-Ahli in June, but a move to the Middle East never eventuated.

Elsewhere, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has hinted at an exit, while West Ham boss Graham Potter remains under the pump.

Postecoglou oversaw 101 games for Tottenham, with a record of 47 wins, 15 draws, and 39 defeats.
