Man Utd news: Harry Maguire situation provokes dressing room as Bryan Mbeumo gets message

Manchester United aren't back in action until next Monday with a trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium on the agenda

Manchester United had a spare weekend to rest and recuperate while their top four rivals were in FA Cup action. United departed the competition at the third round stage after losing to Brighton, giving them an elongated gap between fixtures.

United's winning run under Michael Carrick came to an end against West Ham last week, although he remains unbeaten since taking over from Ruben Amorim. Next up is a trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Everton a week today.

The Red Devils will be hard at work on the training pitch during their extended break, while it has also given some of Carrick's men a chance to build up fitness as they return from injury. Mason Mount missed the games against Fulham and West Ham due to a muscle issue and is one such name hoping to be back to face the Toffees.

Matthijs de Ligt is also nearing a return with the only long term absentee being Patrick Dorgu. Carrick will be hoping to be able to choose from a near fully fit squad for the rest of the season as he aims to keep United in the top four and secure a return to the Champions League.

Dressing room stance on Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire's teammates believe the club would be "mad" not to extend the defender's contract beyond the summer. The 32-year-old has enjoyed a resurgence under Carrick after being used sparingly under both Amorim and Erik ten Hag.

Support has also grown among the fanbase in giving Maguire a new deal, with his current one set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season. It seems the United dressing room are also in agreement with this stance as a source told The Sun just how important he is to the team.

They said: "The players think it would be madness if he was not offered a new deal. Harry has endured plenty of ups and downs at United but has come through all that and is playing really well.

"He’s very well-respected in the dressing room and is passing on a lot of knowledge to some of the younger players like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro.

"Everyone likes him and respects him and the majority of the players want the club to give him a deal."

Matheus Cunha speaks out

Matheus Cunha has waxed lyrical about fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo, stating that the former Brentford man can bring "something special" to Old Trafford. The pair joined United last year for a combined £128.5million and have since brought the goalscoring threat the team have desperately been after.

They have a total of 20 goal contributions between them and have quickly become favourites among the support. It seems that Cunha's number one at United is also Mbeumo as he told Premier League Productions just what his fellow attacker brings to the club.

He said: "A lot of energy. What a lovely guy. I’m around him every day, he’s someone that is fun. I always play against him and we talk about the games that we played in the past, Brentford against Wolves.

"But to be together now and help United is something that when we arrive here, we feel like, wow, we can be a small part of the success of the team. It’s something that is a challenge that is everything to us."

Regarding Mbeumo's recent performances since returning from AFCON, Cunha added: "He's very intelligent, he's very clever. So he can use his strength very, very good, like going to space, he shoots so well, so good.

"This is the kind of number nine we need to have. Of course, he's someone that helped us so much and it's a pleasure to play with him. He’s more than the position that he plays. Being around him in the pitch, we know he can create something special."
