Novak Djokovic ramped up his preparations for the Australian Open with coach Andy Murray watching on.

After being absent from the Serbian’s corner during his Brisbane International campaign, the three-time Grand Slam is now in Melbourne on his first coaching assignment.

The tennis world has been waiting to see the pair on court ever since it was announced they would be working together.

But in the buildup to the first Grand Slam of the year, fans have got their wish and Novak Djokovic’s training is going well so far.

Four days after exiting the Brisbane International, Djokovic is in Melbourne preparing to try and win his 11th Australian Open.

Djokovic has been pictured practicing on court with coach Andy Murray watching on. The Olympic champion has now put what he has learned to the test when he played a practice match against Carlos Alcaraz, the man Djokovic beat to win the coveted gold medal in August 2024.

According to The Guardian, in Murray’s first ever Grand Slam practice session with Murray as his coach, Djokovic played a practice set against Alcaraz.

It was described as an intense and high-quality set of tennis, in which Djokovic won 7-5 and was credited to have served well at crucial moments, something he has done so often throughout his illustrious career.

Will Andy Murray coach Novak Djokovic beyond the Australian Open?

As it stands, it is unknown how long Murray will be Djokovic’s coach.

At the time of the announcement, it was reported that Murray will be in Djokovic’s corner until at least until the conclusion of the Australian Open.

Perhaps Djokovic’s success at the tournament this year depends on whether their partnership will continue and for how long.

Murray has previously expressed his desire to coach but nobody expected it would happen so soon after his retirement from tennis.

Furthermore Djokovic being Murray’s first coaching assignment took everyone by surprise, and it remains to be seen how fruitful their partnership will be.
