Brokenhearted footballers and friends gather to farewell Adam Selwood

Before Adam Selwood’s memorial service on Wednesday, his West Coast premiership teammate Michael Braun posted a broken heart emoji on Instagram.

Braun, who like Selwood was recruited to the Eagles from the Bendigo Pioneers, was among hundreds of mourners who gathered at West Coast headquarters to farewell Selwood, and his post illustrated the pain of everyone who knew him.

Also at the private service were former Eagles Nic Naitanui, Josh Kennedy, Will Schofield and more of Selwood’s 2006 premiership teammates – David Wirrpanda, Chris Judd, Ben Cousins, Daniel Kerr and Chad Fletcher. Former Geelong champion Tom Hawkins, a close friend of the Selwood family through brother Joel, was also in attendance.

Eagles jumpers dotted the crowd as mourners gathered on a clear but crisp Perth day.
