Fuludu Raises Alarm Over Security Risks in NPFL

Former Nigeria international and NPFL match commissioner Edema Fuludu has raised serious concerns about growing insecurity around the Nigeria Professional Football League, warning that the safety of players and officials is increasingly being threatened.

Fuludu explained that football cannot be separated from the broader security challenges affecting society, stressing that recent incidents involving teams travelling for league matches highlight the dangers players face.

“It is worrying that players are now being attacked while travelling for matches,” Fuludu said.

According to the former international, some clubs have contributed to the problem by failing to follow established travel regulations designed to protect teams during long journeys across the country.

“Clubs must respect the travel rules put in place for their safety,” he noted.

Fuludu pointed out that league regulations clearly discourage teams from travelling at night, as the risks associated with late-night journeys are significantly higher.

“Teams are expected to stop travelling by 7pm and continue the journey the next day,” he explained.

However, he revealed that some clubs still ignore these guidelines in an attempt to reduce costs associated with accommodation and logistics.

“Some clubs continue travelling late at night just to cut costs,” he added.

The former midfielder described the practice as dangerous and unacceptable, insisting that player safety should never be compromised for financial reasons.

“That approach is risky and should not be tolerated,” he stressed.

Fuludu concluded by warning that clubs that cannot meet basic operational and safety standards should reconsider their participation in the league.

“If a club cannot guarantee basic safety, it should not be part of the league,” he stated.
