ICC Nominates Pakistani Star Batter for T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament Award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the shortlist for the Player of the Tournament award at the T20 World Cup 2026, with Sahibzada Farhan as the only one Pakistan player nominated after an otherwise disappointing campaign for the former champions.

Sahibzada Farhan is the lone representative from Pakistan after the national team failed to advance beyond the group stage.

The opening batter scored 383 runs in six innings, the highest total ever recorded in a single edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup. He also became the first player to score two centuries in one tournament, reaching triple figures against Sri Lanka and Namibia.

Despite Pakistan falling short of the net run-rate required to qualify for the semi-finals, Sahibzada Farhan, along with Fakhar Zaman, consistently provided explosive starts at the top of the order.

The technically strong right-hander has demonstrated his ability to adapt to the demands of modern T20 cricket with confidence.

England all-rounder Will Jacks is another strong contender after playing a key role in his team’s run to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Jacks delivered several match-winning performances and collected four Player of the Match awards during the tournament.

Batting in a finishing role, he scored 226 runs at a strike rate of 176.56. He also contributed with the ball, taking nine wickets, including crucial breakthroughs during the Super Eight stage against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has also been shortlisted after leading the Proteas’ bowling attack throughout the competition. Ngidi claimed 12 wickets in seven matches, consistently producing important spells that helped South Africa reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026.

His teammate Aiden Markram is also among the nominees following a series of influential batting performances. After being promoted to the top of the order, Markram scored three half-centuries in eight matches.

His most notable innings came during successful run chases against New Zealand and West Indies, where he remained unbeaten on 86 on both occasions.

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has impressed with his ability to contribute in multiple departments. The left-hander scored 128 runs and also took 11 wickets, including a decisive 4 for 27 against Sri Lanka during the Super Eight stage.

Fellow New Zealand player Tim Seifert has also been instrumental in the team’s march to the final of the ICC T20 World Cup. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 274 runs in eight matches, producing several key innings at the top of the order.

His 58 in the semi-final against South Africa, along with a 117-run opening partnership with Finn Allen, helped guide New Zealand to a successful chase of 170.

Despite the United States exiting the tournament during the group stage, pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk produced one of the most impressive bowling performances of the event. The fast bowler took 13 wickets in just four matches, finishing among the leading wicket-takers with an economy rate of 6.80.

India’s Sanju Samson completes the shortlist after producing match-winning performances in the knockout stage. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls against West Indies in the Super Eight stage and followed it with a blistering 89 from 42 deliveries in the semi-final.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Player of the Tournament winner will be announced after the final between England and India on Sunday.
