Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd Hold Talks to Sign 'Unplayable' Star Alongside Cunha

Manchester United have already made contact to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap ahead of the summer transfer window, Fabrizio Romano revealed on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast.

The Red Devils are believed to have emerged as Delap’s main suitors alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea and have placed the 21-year-old sensation among their potential forward targets.

United are now advancing on a deal to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha but retain interest in Delap as well, with his £30m release clause appealing to Old Trafford chiefs.

Delap is set to leave Ipswich amid their looming Premier League relegation, despite only joining the Tractor Boys on a five-year deal last year.

Romano, speaking on the Market Madness podcast, has revealed that both Man United and Chelsea are trying to sign Delap this summer and see his £30m release clause as a ‘big opportunity’:

“Yeah, both of them [Man United and Chelsea] are trying. Both of them are interested. “So for sure, the player is doing fantastic, and so Man United and Chelsea are very attentive to the situation. “From what I heard, they have already made contact with the agents of the player to be informed on this relegation clause, £30 million. It's a big opportunity.”

Delap, praised as ‘unplayable’, has been exceptional in his first season at Portman Road, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 32 Premier League appearances.

He is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford even if United miss out on European football next season, though they could still qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

Delap spent four years at the Manchester City academy before departing permanently last summer and knows Man United technical director Jason Wilcox well from his time with the club.

The Red Devils have several alternatives to the England U21 international, including Victor Osimhen, who is set to leave Napoli at the end of the season.
