Man United Have New 'Concern' After Michael Carrick Reaction

Bryan Mbeumo: Man United ‘concerned’ after his ‘angry’ response to Michael Carrick

Manchester United are concerned about the recent performances of Bryan Mbeumo with his place in the starting XI now brought into question.

The 26-year-old has hit a tricky run of form in recent weeks despite a strong start under Michael Carrick and has failed to score in any of his last six games.

Meanwhile, the Cameroon international was visibly frustrated after being withdrawn during United’s 3-1 win against Aston Villa on 15 March, adding to their concerns.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Mbeumo must not get carried away and has to work hard to regain his form.

While there are no immediate concerns about his attitude or long-term future ahead of the summer transfer window, his reaction has been flagged as a potential issue.

Man United have concerns about Bryan Mbeumo

Following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, Brown told Football Insider that Mbeumo would be a huge boost to Carrick, and he has since been a regular in his side.

However, his recent downturn in performances has led to calls for him to be replaced by Benjamin Sesko or Amad Diallo in the starting XI after the international break.

The forward’s ecent displays combined with his response to being withdrawn is also a concern for Man United, although he has been backed to return to his best.

“There are some concerns about Bryan Mbeumo at Man United,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s been way off it in recent weeks, nowhere near his usual standard, and when players have dips in form like that it’s always going to be a concern.

“He didn’t react well when he was dragged off against Aston Villa, he was angry about that decision, but he couldn’t have any complaints really.

“I don’t think it’s a massive thing, it’s not like there’s any major problem, it’s just that he’s not been in form and then reacting like that isn’t the best look.

“But he needs to get his head down and get back to his best, because he’s an important player for Man United and somebody Michael Carrick rates highly.”

Man United plan new Harry Maguire talks

On the opposite end of the spectrum to Man United’s frustrations about Mbeumo, they are delighted with the recent performances of Harry Maguire.

Despite his late red card against Bournemouth which ultimately resulted in the Cherries’ equaliser, his displays under Carrick have earned him high praise.

Brown told Football Insider on 24 March that Man United are accelerating talks with Maguire over a new contract to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June, but neither him nor the club have any intention of letting his deal run down.

After establishing himself as a key man under Carrick, the club have been left with “no choice” but to extend his deal, and talks are believed to be going well.
